[In a time of deception (like today), the things that used to be generally known are not generally known. I read in a children's ministry newsletter that some of the children that they ministered to had never seen a Bible. No one would think it possible, but if we stop to think, there are children growing up in crack houses, on the streets, without fathers, and in houses of affliction. Some years ago a reader said he came to the website and got saved. He said that he had never heard anything like it--he was in his 70s. We must not take for granted that people know those things that we are acquainted with. We must explain and define. It is with these things in mind that this article is published.]
WHAT DOES RESURRECTION MEAN?
The Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, and then rose from the dead on the third day. His rising from the dead is called the resurrection. Because he rose from the dead, all men will rise from the dead one day. Resurrection is when the body rises from the dead.
At this time, people die and their bodies are buried or remain somewhere on earth. But one day their bodies will rise in the resurrection. There will be a resurrection of the just and a resurrection of the unjust.
RESURRECTION, n. A rising again; chiefly, the revival of the dead of the human race, or their return from the grave, particularly at the general judgment. By the resurrection of Christ we have assurance of the future resurrection of men. I Peter 1 (Webster's 1828 Dictionary)At the appointed hour, the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, and they will come forth; some to the resurrection of life and some to the resurrection of damnation. Their physical bodies will rise from the grave.
You will personally rise from the dead. Your physical body will experience either life for evermore or torment for evermore.
*** SINCE BY MAN CAME DEATH, BY MAN CAME ALSO THE RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD ***
The first man, Adam, disobeyed God. He therefore sinned and died. He and his wife, Eve, went on to have children. We all come from Adam and Eve and, like them, we all sin and die. God had mercy on us and sent his Son, to the earth to shed his blood die in our place for the sins that have committed. The Lord Jesus did not remain dead, he rose from the dead on the third day. He was resurrected from the dead. When people speak of the resurrection, they are speaking of this great event. Because the Lord Jesus arose, we will all arise from the dead--in our bodies.
There will be a resurrection of life and there will be a resurrection of damnation. The body will rise to exist for ever in one of two places, depending on how a person decided to live his life on the earth--a person either gets saved by the blood of Jesus and follows God's holy word or else they do what they feel like doing.
John 5:29 28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. There shall be a resurrection of the dead--both of the just and the unjust (see Acts 24:15). The just are those that walk with God according to his word and the unjust are those that disobey the word of God and live however they wanted to live. We are all sinners, but God is not willing that we should perish. That is why he sent his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to shed his blood and die in our place so that we can get forgiveness for the sins that we have committed. If we believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and if we follow his word, then we are his disciples and his people. We will live forever.
When people die at this time, their souls go to heaven or hell depending on what choices they made in this life concerning the word of God and the Lord Jesus Christ. Those that walk with God according to his word go to heaven. Those that do not walk with God according to his word, go to hell.
*** WHEN TIME IS OVER ***
When time is over, the small and great will stand before God. At that time, whosoever is not found written in the book of life will be cast into the lake of fire. Death, hell, the beast, the false prophet, the devil, and all people who are not found written in the book of life will be cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
