As I was flipping through the SAT book mentioned in the "Freethinker" article, I came across some papers folded up in it. The first sentence on one of them went on this wise, "Sometimes it is necessary to challenge what people in authority claim to be true. . . [A] specific way to challenge without affording [sic-- probably should be "offending"] the authority is to simply ask questions without sarcasm -- this not only makes us feel better, but allows us to become better thinkers." The grader of the paper noted "good idea" and told the writer to develop the writing a little more and/or give another example to prove their point.

When I saw this (specifically, "Sometimes it is necessary to challenge what people in authority claim to be true") I thought of a phrase that I have come across. I believe it goes "Question authority". I do not know where I have seen it or how many times I have seen it. From my notes, an initial response (with a few modifications):

They say, "Question authority." Well, I am questioning
  • my own thoughts and intents to see from whence they come and to see, according to the word of God (the Authorized (King James) Version of 1611), whether they be good or evil. I am also questioning
  • preachers, deacons, professed Christians, as well as churches, denominations, and doctrines
  • popes and "black popes" [Jesuit generals]
  • the educational system
  • new laws, acts, decrees, rules, regulations, proclamations, acclamations, deviations, declarations, denunciations, law suits, threats, penalties, and executive orders that (1) ignore the Constitution of the United States of America, (2) run contrary to the Constitution of the United States of America, and (3) defy the Constitution of the United States of America
  • the government
  • all groups, organizations, associations, and movements
  • authors
  • leaders
  • teachers
  • dictionaries
  • technology
  • old ways and new ways
  • seminaries
  • schools and universities
  • corporations
  • newscasters
  • journalists
  • psychologists
  • psychiatrists
  • pharmaceuticals
  • geneticists
  • judges
  • lawyers
  • religious people
  • botanists
  • zoologists
  • mineralogists
  • geologists
  • oceanographers
  • meteorologists
  • scientists
  • popular consensus
  • world leaders
  • the UN
  • concordats, treaties, agreements old and new, etc.

I went downstairs. More notes (with modifications)--

I question anybody and everybody and everything; including myself. All of us have sinned and come short of the glory of God (ref. Romans 3:23). The only one that I do not question is God my Maker and his word (the Authorized Version of the Bible)--and that is good and right and appropriate. The Maker and manufacturer knows perfectly how his creation works--and he also knows perfectly what will make it malfunction. The word of the LORD is right and all his works are done in truth (ref. Psalm 33:4). The word of the LORD lights the way. God hath magnified his word above ALL his name, ref. Psalm 138:2--the answers to the present questions, exigencies, and calamities are found in the word of God. The true and the living God is a God that is nigh and not afar off. He is knowable, loving, kind, and longsuffering. He has given us his word in the Bible (holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost, ref. 2 Peter 1:21, Authorized Version of 1611)), which is our bread and our light to lighten the way, no matter how dark (and darkening) things are.

"Question everything...."

That is actually good advice, if it is fully and properly applied. The world is full of lies and vicious ideas and proclamations and so-called "lifestyles" and organizations and technologies and teachers and scientists and officials and textbooks and newscasts and dictionaries, etcetera-- and they all need to be questioned and the results of each one duly considered and examined. [Look at the earth! Behold the desolations! Look at the results of man listening to man! Look at all the diseased people; the lunatics; the dismembered infants cut up and extracted from their mother's wombs (aborted babies); the crime victims; the mentally confused and disoriented, and terrified; the depressed and suicidal; the deceived; the false worshippers; the people with compulsive disorders and those with personality disorders; the people that, without proper direction, ended up in jail where they suffer. Look at the adultery and divorce rates; look at the abuse; look at the ridiculous "school" system that keeps people on lockdown (like in a jail) for practically their entire youth answering riddles while not equipping them with a skill [note: if somebody is going to be in school all day for over a decade, they could at least come out as a competent seamstress, carpenter, bookkeeper, nursing assistant, mechanic, builder, etc. Babies can read, it does not take years to teach a child to read.]! The logic and lust system produces a superfluity of naughtiness and abundant sins and sorrows and pains and abounding iniquity and the love of many waxing cold as people are directed away from God and his word to whatever they happen to encounter and cleave to--or are trapped in (there are innumerable snares that deceived people can run into--any deceiver (knowing that such people are simple and deceivable) can trick them). Without the word of God, the "searchers" (for truth or whatever they are searching for) do not have anything to protect them from deception, especially those who have been deceived into believing that the Bible was "just written by men" or those who decide that they will do whatever they feel like doing (they are deceived as well). Society is become like a bubbling cauldroun of sins, filth, and iniquity. The people are holden with the cords of their sins. Every street is like a cell block, every room a jail cell, and every park a prison yard. Incontinent and fierce, the "thought leaders" (properly "evil men", "seducers", "ungodly") use words and lies to deceive the simple, e.g. calling sins "rights", then legalizing those sins, and criminalizing righteousness. Look around to witness the raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame.

Isaiah 5:18 Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope:

19 That say, Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it!

20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

The light of the word of God, has not only revealed my own errors, but has caused me to look on my past life and to examine the propriety of my own parents who turned me loose to the world at a young age to make decisions for myself like watching tv, going to school, keeping company with whom I would, going to "dances," etc. as if I were an entity that could make good decisions for myself and would be all right in the jungle with the anacondas and vipers all by my simple and ignorant self. I was not all right even though I wanted to be all right. I can remember how I used to think and what I used to say about my goals in life. There was something I wanted to be, but (1) in the absence of the guidance of the word of God (and a teacher thereof) and (2) in the presence and teaching of the world (and plenty of teachers thereof), there was an horrific outcome.

Parents tell their children, "Don't talk to strangers," but the children are watching hours and hours of television daily and weekly. The children may not be talking to strangers, BUT THE STRANGERS ARE TALKING DIRECTLY TO THEM and putting abominable filth in their heads. The tv sewage pipe is like a big huge pipeline run right into the mind of the entranced* viewer, delivering enormous amounts of sewage in a way that fascinates/bewitches/enchants/charms/captivates/allures and addicts--it is slurped up and continuously desired year in and year out. A life without it is inconceivable to the addicts.

I've seen what is happening to children. The children who are doing very badly are indicators of a problem, it is not that they in and of themselves are the problem, they have been assaulted and overwhelmed from various quarters (not the least of which is unwatchful parentage, the television, the school system, and the music.). People do not want to work and they want to watch television. Therefore children are not learning to work and learn a skill--they are sitting in front of the television and learning foolishness. Their minds are being filled with insane things at the time in life when they are learning perception. [As I stood in line in a store recently, there was a young boy of perhaps eight years old who continually contorted his face as if he were a cartoon character. He would have a look, eyes wide open (whites seen all around the irises), look directly in your face for perhaps 20 seconds (lips curled inward, wide "smile" showing many teeth) and then smoothly switch to another look (perhaps lowering head and looking upward through widened eyes) and hold it another 20 seconds, etc. He looked at anyone, including the two ladies in front of me. He may have been a foot in front of them when he began to stare at them in this manner. They looked at him and at each other but he continued to gaze into their faces.]

*ENTRANSED, pp. Put in a transe; having the soul withdrawn, and the body left in a state of insensibility; enraptured; ravished.

ENTRANSING, ppr. Carrying away the soul; enrapturing; ravishing.

ENTRANSE, v.t. or i., To put in a transe; to withdraw the soul, and leave the body in a kind of dead sleep or insensibility; to make insensible to present objects. The verb is seldom used, but the participle, entransed is common., (ref. Webster's 1828)]

"Question everything..."

You've been listening to tv, school teachers, novels, textbooks, newcasters, newspapers, activists, etc. all your life. Is what they say good and good for the future? or does what they say "sound" good to your mind but deliver disastrous results for the mind, body, spirit and society?

What has been the result of listening to these? Look around. Are you closer to hell or heaven for listening to their words? Are you closer to knowing God and his word (the Authorized Version of 1611) as a result of their words or do you find yourself very far from him and his word?

Look at the societal implications of their words. For instance, the "thought leaders" present the sin of whoredom via various venues (tv, movies, books, etc.) and the people imitate what they see. As a result, babies are conceived; but the babies are not wanted. The "thought leaders" present abortion (infanticide) as a "choice" and a "right" and a solution to ending that baby's life--many sinners quickly choose murder. As a result, many thousands of babies are massacred daily, they say 45 million a year. Is chopping up a child in his mother's womb good for the baby? the woman's body, mind, and spirit? for future families?

The devil savoureth not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. The devil is there in the "logic" and lust of man as man feeds on man's thinking and rules and regulations and inventions.

To the unwary, if you repent of your sins, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and obey his word, then you can (and should) "question everything" that comes your way. With God's word in your hand and heart (and a desire to know the truth about all things) you will not err in seeing what is right and what is wrong. This is not a long, drawn out process. As one lives simply (and is dedicated to God's word), when something comes up, examining things is actually automatic because the Spirit of the Lord is guiding us.
